Governor Schwarzenegger’s Office of Economic Development Joins BYD and KB Home Executives and City of Lancaster Officials at Unveiling of Future Energy Efficient Home
Partnership between Company Executives and City Officials Illustrates Environmental and Economic Benefits
LANCASTER, CA –Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GoED) Director Joel Ayala today attended the unveiling of the energy efficient home of the future, another sign that California continues to lead with environmentally responsible and financially sound initiatives.
The home utilizes BYD (Build Your Dreams) solar, battery and LED lighting systems. The project is expected to set the standard for affordable energy-efficient technologies. The home was built to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR® guidelines and will feature an electric vehicle outlet to demonstrate the home’s capability of charging BYD’s F3DM and e6 electric vehicles. A 90 home community development project will be built out over the next two years.
California has been one of the nation’s leaders in renewable, solar, bio and alternative energies and this partnership effort between BYD, KB Homes and the City of Lancaster proves just how sound the state’s environmental footing is and how this, in turn, brings others together to create the technologies of the future here in this state.
“Thanks to Governor Schwarzenegger’s vision and his leadership in working to establish California as a world class environmental leader, California is attracting foreign investment and creating public-private partnerships that will redefine the way we live,” said GoED Director Ayala. “This Governor, more than any governor, has led the way with initiatives like AB 32, the Million Solar Roofs Plan and the Hydrogen Highway, and this is going to help California to create the kind of green jobs and industries that will support the state’s economic growth.”
The City of Lancaster is the latest partner to join California’s growing list of solar and alternative energy sites focused on reinventing tomorrow to help create local jobs. City officials estimate that their environmentally-friendly initiatives will result in the creation of thousands of jobs for the region. Like the state, the City of Lancaster is relying on innovation to bring about lasting change and improve the quality of life for others.
“This remarkable new house is truly the home of the future,” said Mayor R. Rex Parris. “This type of cutting-edge, planet-saving initiative is precisely what happens when you combine the brain power of one of the nation’s greatest homebuilders with one of the world’s most forward-thinking energy companies.
The City of Lancaster is proud that our residents will be among the first to benefit from the cost savings and environmental protection offered by homes such as this. We look forward to building upon this successful partnership with KB Home and BYD well into the future.”
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GoED) was launched by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to help stimulate and facilitate economic growth across the state. GoEd serves as a one-stop shop for business needs and can offer assistance, resources, and other tools to assist with the creation, expansion and retention of businesses. GoED’s mission is to make it easier to do business in the state.
