XL vehicles to be used by Parks & Recreation, and other departments.
ZAP was founded in September 1994 as an electric bicycle kit manufacturer in Sebastopol, California.
ZAP has grown into one of the leading global distributors of alternative fuel technology vehicles with
over 100,000 vehicles (most of which are electric) in over 75 countries. ZAP is committed to supplying
consumers worldwide with products that are socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. It is
headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, with manufacturing facilities in Sanmen, China.
Ramon Alvarez C. has been an owner of automobile and truck dealerships in
Southern California for over twenty years, after establishing himself as a highly
successful sales manager for several San Diego-area dealers in the 1980s. In
addition to Alvarez ZAP, he also owns Alvarez Jaguar and Alvarez Lincoln-Mercury.
Active in many local social, cultural and sports organizations, Alvarez also serves the
auto industry through his appointment to California’s New Motor Vehicle Board by
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007.
As head of ZAP USA, Alvarez will oversee the establishment of a distribution system and dealership
network that is expected to expand to 300 sales and service locations across the United States, selling
60,000 vehicles annually. The initial ZAP dealerships will be in California, and Alvarez ZAP is the first.
“We are excited to be part of a revolution in American transportation, “ says Alvarez. “The ZAP allelectric
vehicles provide an economical, zero-pollution alternative to gas-powered small trucks and
vans. Future ZAP cars will be competitive with those from major manufacturers and independents. We
think there is a huge opportunity to sell electric vehicles to many kinds of customers.”
Alvarez believes that the CIty of Riverside’s purchase of six ZAPTRUCK XL vehicles from his new
dealership is consistent with the community’s commitments to a Clean & Green Vision. “These vehicles
will provide the City with excellent utility with a zero carbon footprint and the equivalent of over 100 mpg
in fuel efficiency. Since they come with a built-in charger, the only support these vehicles will need is
access to an ordinary 110 volt outlet.”
The vehicles will be delivered to the CIty of Riverside in a ceremony at 9 AM, Thursday, 29 July 2010,
at Alvarez ZAP, 8051 Auto Center Drive, in Riverside. Mayor Ronald Loveridge and other City officials
will be in attendance.
