Helix Medical Expands Manufacturing Capabilities
Now Offering Thermoplastic Injection Molding and Additional Manufacturing Facilities in Southern California, Massachusetts and China

CARPINTERIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Helix Medical, LLC, a global manufacturer for the medical device, health care, pharmaceutical and biotech industries, announces expanded capabilities with new manufacturing operations in Baldwin Park, CA; Gloucester, MA; and Shenzhen, China.

As a result of an acquisition made in January 2008, Helix Medical now oversees the operations of APEC, a Baldwin Park, CA-based thermoplastic and silicone injection molder. With APEC, Helix Medical has gained the resources of a respected contract manufacturer of medical device components and subassemblies. APEC, in business since 1997, operates a 72,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in Southern California, as well as APEC (Asia) Limited, a 35,000 square foot medical component manufacturing facility in Shenzhen, China. APEC is strong in thermoplastic injection molding, utilizing top-of-the-line ARBURG and TOYO presses ranging from 28 – 300 ton, and also offers advanced silicone injection molding with 7 silicone (LIM) cells with the unique ability to manufacture both thermoplastics and silicone in the same Class 100,000 cleanroom. Helix Medical is now able to offer customers thermoplastic injection molding, both insert molding and multi-shot molding.

Through its Gloucester Operations, Helix Medical also offers manufacturing in Gloucester, MA. Formerly, Jenline Industries, Ltd., a silicone contract manufacturing company best known for the manufacture of silicone-based health care products, the Gloucester facility was acquired in 2004 by Freudenberg-NOK General Partnership. In 2007, Jenline’s operations were contributed into, and became a division of, Helix Medical, LLC, the Health Care Products Division of Freudenberg-NOK. In 2008, the Jenline Division was renamed Helix Medical – Gloucester Operations.

“Through our Gloucester and Baldwin Park Operations, Helix Medical now offers its customers a combined manufacturing experience of over 50 years,” said Dr. Jorg Schneewind, CEO, Helix Medical, LLC. “We are well positioned to meet the needs of our customers with these additional manufacturing operations and continue our hallmark service offerings of extrusion and custom molding of platinum-cured silicone products for the medical device, health care, pharmaceutical and biotech industries.”
